Surprising Diet Side Effects

I went out for dinner tonight.  Now usually, I would have ordered something like the ribs or steak, but I’m consciously trying to make healthier choices now.  Not that I think steak is bad for you, but I eat enough red meat as it is already.  I decided to go for either the tuna steak or the rotisserie chicken.

Wanting something a bit more substantial, I ordered the 1/2 rotisserie chicken with a side of brown rice and the hot & sweet dipping sauce.  I devoured the entire order of brown rice (about 1/2 - 3/4 cup).  I love white rice, but brown rice is good in its own right.

Before I got the chicken, I told myself I would remove the skin, but once it arrived, my mouth watered at the sight of the perfectly crispy, golden brown skin.  So I ate most of it and I don’t feel bad about it. :-P

It was a very satisfying dinner.  Not the healthiest, but healthier than my usual.

It’s hours later and I still feel very full and bloated.  I’ve been noticing some unwanted side effects of my quest to eat healthier.  I’ve been feeling more bloated lately, and, pardon me, am more gassy.  I think this is the result of drinking more milk and eating more vegetables.  I know their digestion tends to produce a good amount of gas.  I’ve also noticed my skin is breaking out - egads!  But I’m not sure if this is from the milk (a culprit in the past) or from a new sunscreen I started using at the same time.  I’ve stopped using the sunscreen and hope that will also stop the breakouts.  If not, I will have to cut back on the milk because having pimply skin does not a happy girl make!

Also, from working out and eating more fiber, I have been drinking a whole lot of water.  I feel thirsty all the time, and all this water is not only making me pee about every 10 minutes, but it also stretches my stomach to that pregnant look - exactly what I have been trying to get rid of!  ARGH.  Hopefully this is just the initial phase of my body getting used to these changes and will subside soon.  If not, I must be doing something wrong and will need to do more reading and research.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to pee.
