I feel bad that I didn’t blog at all yesterday. I’ve been so tired! I’m still not used to getting up so early, and I haven’t compensating by going to bed earlier. I went to bed Tuesday night around midnight, and last night it was around 1 AM. I really have no excuse for staying up so late - I’m just so used to it plus I’m a night person who tends to get energized in the evenings.
Also, I am failing miserably at changing my diet it’s not even funny. I just love. food. so. much. I don’t eat to sate my hunger. I don’t eat for the nutrients. I eat because I love the taste, texture, and smell of food. It’s a pleasurable experience, and I’m a hedonist. So I have been trying to make healthier choices. I changed my lunch order yesterday from a Bacon Swiss Burger to a Salmon Burger, and instead of having a 400 calorie brownie that was in the kitchen here at work, I had an apple and hard-boiled egg instead. Unfortunately, I still eat junk. I went to Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday (go Celtics) and because I was too lazy to wait in the long lines for the healthier options, I had a skyscraper dog (yes, it is long) and a 10-piece Chicken McNugget order at McDonalds. Ugh! Eating healthy requires a lot of effort and planning, and truth be told, I’m lazy! But I know if I really want to change my shape and sculpt my body, I better get myself together. What you eat is so important when it comes to having a great body.
Compared to my eating habits, exercise is easy and enjoyable. Wednesday morning, I worked on my large muscle groups in my upper body. Chest, shoulders, back. I also worked a bit on my abs and did a lot of stretching. My legs were feeling a bit sore from Tuesday’s workout, and by noon I could barely walk. They had become extremely sensitive, but not painful per se. It’s the same feeling you get when you hit your funny bone or press into a bruise, a kind of tingly, uncomfortable irritation that makes you cringe and giggle at the same time. This is what I felt with every step I took, and it was especially worse after sitting down at my desk and then getting up. I was walking so funny and slowly, but I actually was pretty happy that my legs were sore. It was like validation for my hard work and confirmation that my leg muscles were being exercised.
They feel about 80% better this morning. Unfortunately, I skipped the gym. My alarm went off at 6 AM but I was so exhausted I just couldn’t do it. I don’t regret it. I needed the sleep and I’m not going to beat myself up for giving in. Instead, I brought my gym bag with me to work and I will be going to the gym right after work. I made sure to still eat breakfast though.
Tonight, I will be working on my smaller upper body muscles such as my biceps and triceps, but primarily, this will be a cardio day. I also plan to spend some time in the sauna to help relax, stretch out, and ease my sore muscles.
I’m snacking on some almonds right now for my mid-morning snack. Lunch today is Armenian food, which is sorta like Mediterranean food with kabobs and hummus, but it’s not really healthy. There will also be porkchops and ribs and salty salty pickles. I love it all and I’m not gonna deny myself just yet.
One step at a time here.
