Dealing with Food Temptations at the Office

January 13th, 2009

As I’ve mentioned previously, my office provides lunch every day.  Unfortunately, it’s usually fast food such as McDonalds, KFC, or pizza.  These are food I normally would not eat because when I do eat out, it’s usually at regular restaurants, not fast food chains.

However, because it’s available, convenient, and free, I have been eating the lunches here for about two years now.  Is this a factor in my fat gain? Most definitely.

For example, lunch today was Costco hot dogs and … see the full entry

Not Eating Enough and Gaining Weight

October 16th, 2008

So I mysteriously put on 7 lbs 2 weeks ago and I think I finally figured out why:

I’m not eating enough!

I usually eat a lot, snacking throughout the day, but ever since I started paying attention to my calories, my weight has stubbornly stayed fixed at 5 - 7lbs more than my norm.  What the heck is going on?

Well, for the past two days I said “Screw it!”  It was my time of month and I was craving fatty meats, … see the full entry

A 320 Calorie Dinner

October 8th, 2008

My dinner tonight was:

  • A can (2 servings) of Progresso Light soup, Beef Pot Roast flavor [160 calories]
  • Two slices of lightly toasted wheat bread [110 calories] with a serving of black forest smoked deli ham [45 calories] and two leaves of lettuce [5 calories]

It was filling and tasty, plus it was cheap!

Loaf of Bread: 99 cents for 11 servings so 9 cents a serving (99% of the breads listed a serving as 1 slice, but this brand actually acknowledged the fact … see the full entry

My Weight is at its Heaviest, Ever!

October 6th, 2008

After coming home last night, I got on the scale and weighed myself.  I couldn’t believe the number, so I weighed myself again, thinking maybe the scale was being screwy. I weighed again, and again.  I even brought the scale out to the kitchen floor, thinking maybe a different surface would help.  One more time. Then another. I sighed. It wasn’t changing, and I wasn’t surprised.

I weighed in at 111.5 lbs, the heaviest I’ve ever been my entire life. Woah!  … see the full entry

How can something so small be so much?

October 1st, 2008

Lunch today, provided by the office, will be Costco hot dogs and Costco Polish dogs. I didn’t bring my lunch today, I’m starving, and I will probably have my usual 2 dogs with mustard and ketchup.

I didn’t want to, but I just looked up the calorie count for those dogs. It visually seems like a pretty small meal, but guess what…

A Costco hot dog has 560 calories! So before any type of drink (soda) or sides (chips, … see the full entry

Dieting versus Exercising for Flat Abs

September 26th, 2008

Quick post for now: I’m reluctant to admit this, because I love food, but it seems that the past week of sorta watching what I eat has done more for the appearance of my abs and waistline than months of exercise. Blah.

How to Make Healthy Lunch Choices at Work

September 24th, 2008

Yesterday, my calorie count for lunch was 542 calories.  A massive improvement over my usual of about 800 - 1700 calories for lunch - for just ONE MEAL!

The difference is that I am now bringing in my own lunch to work. Eating the office provided lunch, or even going to the food places around here, is just too unhealthy.  Why take in extra calories when I don’t have to?

However, with … see the full entry

Do you really know what 1 cup of food looks like?

September 23rd, 2008

I’ve been using FitDay to track what I’ve been eating and my calories.  For certain meals, I’ve had to estimate the portion size.  Now I know I eat more than the suggested servings, so I’ve been pretty generous.  For example, one “normal” serving of rice is 1 cup.  I know I eat more than that, so I’ve been putting down about 1.5 - 2 cups.

Well last night, while making … see the full entry

Why it is so Hard to Eat Well on Weekends

September 22nd, 2008

Though I haven’t really been trying to diet, I have been trying to make healthier food choices.  Well, at least during the week.  This past weekend, however, it all went out the window.

Saturday was our annual company picnic, and this time it was catered by Benihana.  You’d think you’d be eating pretty healthy since it’s a Japanese restaurant, but you’d be wrong.  Well, perhaps if I didn’t eat as much as I did.

I had grilled steak, tons of grilled shrimp, … see the full entry

Eating more calories than you burn

September 18th, 2008

Yesterday, the office-provided lunch was Panda Express.  I should have brought my own lunch.  I should have gone out for lunch. I should have done something.  But shoulda, coulda, didn’t.

I really like Panda Express. A lot. So I had a lot of the fried rice, a good helping of the orange chicken, some of the BBQ pork, and a little bit of the chow mein.

At the end of it all, my calorie intake for lunch was… drumroll please…

1,742!!

What … see the full entry
